The Habitat Foundation Research Grants are intended to strengthen our understanding of tropical ecosystems and advance the conservation of priority species and habitat through improved conservation practice in Malaysia.

Proposals for the Research Grant should fulfil some or all of the following criteria:-

  • focus on species and habitat of conservation significance;
  • seek to address an important conservation biology question or issue;
  • have the potential to fill gaps in our knowledge and enhance understanding with implications for conservation;

The Research Grants may be used for the fieldwork component of higher degree study for a Masters or PhD. They are also suitable for pilot studies by resource management professionals or conservation practitioners.

Proposals should be coherent with current government policies, plans, strategies and laws. They should demonstrate a strong element of collaboration with key stakeholders in order to ensure the sustainability of project objectives. The existence of co-funding will also be regarded favourably in project selection.

 Eligibility

Applications for Research Grants may be made by individuals, non-government organizations, and community-based organizations. Relevant government agencies are also encouraged to apply. Applicants are also responsible for applying for research permissions from the relevant government authorities.
