This study advances indigenous-led ecotourism in Kampung Simpai. It focuses on co-creating experiences, restoring peat swamp habitats, and supporting sustainable incomes through culturally rooted conservation efforts.
The grantee will work with the local Jakun people to revive their traditional culture and knowledge, and empower them in ecotourism services
Dr. Karma Tashi Choedron is an environmental sociologist with over 20 years of experience working with Jakun communities in the Southeast Pahang Peat Swamp Forest. Her work focuses on participatory approaches, including Rapid and Participatory Rural Appraisals, to understand indigenous knowledge, forest dependency, and socio-environmental change. She collaborates with colleagues from the University of Nottingham who bring expertise in environmental governance and community forestry. Together, they have built strong relationships with Orang Asli communities, supporting inclusive, community-led conservation and sustainable development initiatives.
The University of Nottingham was the first ever branch campus of a British University founded outside the UK, where it grants UK higher education in Malaysia by presenting the exact same degrees as its UK branch such as foundation, undergraduate, and postgraduate programs across arts, businesses, sciences and engineering. In 2025, UNM had launched the second edition of the textbook, titled, Process Integration for Resource Conservation.
