This pilot project on the eastern slopes of Penang Hill demonstrates ecologically sound farming through the transformation of abandoned hill terraces into a permaculture food forest. Designed to mimic natural forest edges, the project showcases sustainable food production compatible with fragile hill ecosystems. By integrating water-sensitive farming infrastructure and diverse planting systems, the initiative addresses habitat conservation, soil erosion, water resource protection, and the reduction of agrochemical dependency in steep-slope agriculture.
