This project responds to biodiversity loss and limited public awareness in Malaysia’s limestone ecosystems. It seeks to translate scientific knowledge of land snails into training, citizen science, and ecotourism initiatives that support conservation.

Dr. Liew will study the biodiversity of limestone land snails in Perlis State Park, and provide training workshops for locals in Perlis and Kinta Valley, Perak. Dr Liew received a grant to study land snails in PHBR in 2022

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Liew Thor Seng holds a PhD from Leiden University, Netherlands, and is a senior lecturer at Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS). Specialising in insects and molluscs, Dr. Liew has published around 20 papers, focusing recently on Malaysia’s land snails and slugs. His passion for land snails began during his undergraduate studies, inspiring him to explore their hidden biodiversity and unravel the mysteries of their ecology and evolution.
