The Habitat Foundation (THF) and SEAMEO Regional Centre for Education in Science and Mathematics (SEAMEO RECSAM) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This three-yearagreement marks another milestone in their ongoing collaboration to develop impactful programmes and initiatives in education and research, building on the success of the 14th Regional Congress Search for SEAMEO Young Scientists (SSYS), held in February, in which THF served as a key collaborator.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between THF and SEAMEO RECSAM is anchored on four key components:
Capacity building in green, environmental and sustainability education;
Development of sustainable and resilient school-community ecosystems;
Research, innovation and knowledge advancement in green and environmental education; and
National, regional and international collaboration for sustainable development and long-term impact.
This partnership serves as a powerful catalyst for both institutions to come together, exchange knowledge, and drive the development of innovative solutions, particularly in the fields of green education, sustainability, and modern technologies. The shared vision of The Habitat Foundation and SEAMEO RECSAM centres on fostering technological advancement and nurturing talent that will contribute to building a dynamic, progressive, and sustainable nation. Through this collaboration, both organisations aim to create a lasting, positive impact on students, educators, industry professionals, and the broader community.
As an initial step, THF will participate in SEAMEO RECSAM’s Teacher Training Course by conducting a workshop on Science Communication. Outcomes from the workshop will subsequently be developed and published as a storybook.
The MoU was formally signed by Dr. Azman Bin Jusoh, SEAMEO RECSAM Director, and Justine Vaz, Executive Director of The Habitat Foundation.
Also highlighted in the discussion was SEAMEO RECSAM’s evolving direction. As a centre, it has traditionally focused on promoting science and mathematics education across the region. However, in anticipation of significant shifts in the landscape over the next 10 to 15 years, the centre recognises the need to integrate global competencies into its vision; preparing learners and educators with the relevant skills and capabilities that THF is well-positioned to provide.
The signing ceremony was successfully completed, attended by key representatives from both organisations.
With this partnership firmly established, THF and SEAMEO RECSAM look ahead with purpose and ambition; committed to deepening their collaboration, delivering greater impact, and shaping a future where education, sustainability, and innovation converge for the benefit of generations to come.
