Assoc. Prof. Dr. Liew Thor Seng holds a PhD from Leiden University, Netherlands, and is a senior lecturer at Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS). Specialising in insects and molluscs, Dr. Liew has published around 20 papers, focusing recently on Malaysia’s land snails and slugs. His passion for land snails began during his undergraduate studies, inspiring him to explore their hidden biodiversity and unravel the mysteries of their ecology and evolution.

UMS is public leading university situated on the island of Borneo in Sabah, where it is dedicated to administering quality education while preserving the cultural heritage and rich biodiversity of Borneo while endorsing sustainable development. UMS is well-known for its strengths in many fields including Marine Science, Agriculture, Forestry and Tropical Biology. In 2026, UMS continuously surveys its 25-hectare SFERA@UMS forest fragment, confirming it serves as an active refuge for the critically endangered Sunda pangolin.
